• 2,000 beans (or about one pound) of equal volume and two different colors (small white and black beans work well; it is important that beans have the same volume)
  
• 20 to 30 containers that can hold about 200 beans (you will need enough containers to give each group two containers, and two for demonstration purposes)
  
• 25-mL beaker or dry coffee scoop
• Bottle or tube of sunscreen
